A scientific-practical conference devoted to "The role of transport and transit corridors in achieving sustainable development goals" held in Tajikistan
On July 27, 2016 in the conference hall of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transport, the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan organized and held joint scientific-practical conference devoted to "The role of transport and transit corridors in achieving sustainable development goals".
The conference was attended by Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan Z.Yorova, Deputies of the Director of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan S.Safarov and F.Muminova, Vice-president of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan S.Odinaev, Country Director of UNDP, UNDP Acting Resident Representative in the Republic of Tajikistan Y.Harfst, Chairman of the Tajik Branch of the Humanitarian Association of World Turkmens D.Kullakov, Head of the CIS countries department of the MFA of Tajikistan F.Kosimova, representatives of the ministries and departments, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Tajikistan, prominent science figures, representatives of the local media, as well as students from Turkmenistan studying in higher educational institutions of Tajikistan.
Welcoming remarks was made by the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan Z.Yorova. In her speech, she noted the successful development of the Turkmen-Tajik cooperation in the field of transport and transit corridors in the region, citing the example of the railway "Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan". Then Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Tajikistan Ch.Ataev took the floor. He welcomed the participants of the conference and spoke about the initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan for the development of transit and transport corridors.
In their speeches, participants supported Turkmenistan's initiative and confirmed the need for the development of stable and sustainable transport and transit systems, as the most important factor contributing to the successful solution of the tasks to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals. The presentations covered a wide range of topics related to the transport policy of the Central Asian countries, which contribute to the solution of important social issues, ensuring employment of the population and build effective trade and economic cooperation in the region.
At the end, participants of the conference unanimously supported the initiative put forward by Turkmenistan and agreed on the need to develop a reliable, modern transport and transit infrastructure, as one of the key structural elements of sustainable development, along with energy, food supply, catering and water security.
