In Turkmenistan large-scale work is under way in order to modernize the national educational system and develop science in the higher educational institutions, bring them to the level of the developed states. The “Law on Education” was adopted in the framework of the large scale support given by the state. The intensive construction of new children’s preschool institutions, secondary schools and higher educational institutions is being carried out throughout the country. The latest information and communication technologies have been introduced into the educational system in order to raise the quality and effectiveness of teaching process. Schools and universities have been equipped with modern computers and multimedia means of teaching.
Initiated and approved by the President of Turkmenistan, the basis for the development of education and science includes the national programme for socio-economic development for 2011-2030, the program of development of innovative work in 2015-2020, the program of training of scientific personnel in Turkmenistan and others.
At the beginning of the 2015-2016 academic year in Turkmenistan there are 1834 schools and this figure is 5 times higher than the level in 2011. In the 2015 academic year, there were 1045 children's preschool institutions, which mean an increase of 22.5 % compared to 2011.
Speaking about higher education institutions only in 2015, more than 15 thousand young people became students and, comparing with 2014, increased by 896 students. The country has 24 universities. If you compare with 2011, the number of secondary vocational schools in 2015 increased by 56 %. 62 schools of professional education, not including the driving schools, and 42 technical schools and secondary vocational schools are successfully working in the country.
