On June 6 President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group Ms. Amina J. Mohammed.
Turkmenistan became the first country of the Central Asian region, which was visited by the UN high-ranking representative as part of a working trip undertaken to participate in the upcoming Second International High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” in Tajikistan.
Expressing gratitude for the meeting, the guest conveyed warm greetings from UN Secretary General António Guterres and noted that she was very glad to have the opportunity to visit independent neutral Turkmenistan, which is long-standing, reliable partner of the Organization United Nations in the Central Asian region.
The President of Turkmenistan conveyed his best wishes to the UN leadership and underlined that Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to cooperation with major international organizations, primarily with the UN, which is key platform for conducting a productive and effective dialogue on global agenda.
During the meeting parties exchanged views on the state and prospects for the development of long-term fruitful cooperation and discussed possible areas of joint work within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals, which is closely related to the key goals and objectives outlined in the National Program of Social and Economic Development of Turkmenistan for 2022-2052.
During the conversation, it was noted that Turkmenistan, successfully implementing the policy of neutrality, makes a significant contribution to sustainable development, strengthening peace and security in Central Asia, being the author of many initiatives in the field of energy, transport, ecology, healthcare, social and other spheres, which reflected in a number of Resolutions of the UN General Assembly.
Emphasizing the importance of large-scale projects of national and regional significance implemented by Turkmenistan, the Deputy Secretary-General thanked President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for the active position of the Turkmen side in resolving issues related to such urgent problems of mankind as ensuring global energy security, developing broad international cooperation in the transport and logistics sector, rational use of resources, climate change, and environmental protection.
Ms. Amina Mohammed expressed the deep interest of the organization she represents in further deepening and steadily building up the traditional partnership that meets the interests of the well-being of all mankind and the Sustainable Development Goals.
