The Turkmen part of the Caspian Sea has immense potential for the development of wellness, recreation, and ecological tourism. Currently, tourism is one of the important sectors of Turkmenistan's economy, contributing significantly to the socio-economic development of the country.
Nature itself has taken care of this island, and has created a mild climate, mineral mud springs, golden sandy beaches stretching for many kilometers, unique sea views, and the biological diversity of the Khazar State Reserve, including the diversity of birds in wetlands.
The presentation ceremony of the Avaza National Tourist Zone held in June 2007 became a world-wide event and became a clear evidence of a new approach to the development of the country's recreation and tourism system. The main goal of this project is to comprehensively implement such an important project from the point of view of Turkmenistan's social policy, and to fully provide the necessary conditions for the life of the country's population. In this regard, it is very important that the region has a transport and communication system, including an international seaport and airport, road and railway.
A plot of land with a total area of 5,000 hectares has been allocated for the implementation of the Avaza National Tourist Zone project. At the end of 2007, the construction of the first buildings of this tourist zone began. In June 2009, the opening ceremony of new buildings was held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
Avaza National Tourist Zone occupies a special place in the state policy of Turkmenistan in the strategic plan for the next decades. This project, together with creative solutions of national color, contributes to the harmonious implementation of the most advanced achievements of world architecture and engineering, as well as engineering and technical ideas.
Currently, there are 18 hotels, 8 recreation and health centers, including children's recreation centers with 1380 seats and 9 cottage complexes, which can accommodate more than 10,000 vacationers at the same time in the Avaza national tourism zone. There are 4 parks at the service of vacationers, 2 of which have amusement rides. Parks with a total area of 83 thousand 600 square meters, including theatrical interactive water fountains, an amphitheater, children's playgrounds, numerous cafes and restaurants, green areas, and technical facilities have become the favorite places of vacationers and residents of the city.
The complex of water fountains with a height of 40 to 100 meters stands out for its uniqueness as structures built harmoniously on the basis of modern high technologies. 24 meters high and 60 meters wide water fountains, located 85 meters from the beach, display a variety of holographic images and dancing shapes. They move in sync with the music playing in the park and are constantly changing. The holographic images on the screen, which consists of sea water fountains, are up to 20 meters high, making the images look lifelike. Passing a distance of 50 meters through a shelter built towards the sea, one can observe the beauty of the Caspian Sea during the day and the movements of the nearby sea fountains from the observation deck in the shelter, which is 34 meters long on each side.
In July 2018, an aquapark with a total area of 30 hectares was commissioned here. Along with water attractions, the water park includes other facilities designed to meet the high needs of vacationers and tourists of different ages. This wonderful facility includes a winter and summer water park, a shopping center, dozens of shops and malls offering a wide variety of goods, cafes and restaurants, an amphitheater, a hotel, as well as artificial mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and mountain springs.
Dozens of projects of high-class hotels, recreation complexes, and other important facilities for life have been implemented in Avaza national tourism zone. The quality of transport services here is also very high.
The international airport built in the city of Turkmenbashi serves as the air gate of Avaza. Passengers move from the aircraft to the airport building and back via a telescopic staircase. The international level of the airport is provided by the modern engineering and technical equipment and the new runway, and based on modern standards, it has the ability to serve all types of air vehicles.
The International Seaport in Turkmenbashi was awarded with the awards of the international consulting company "PricewaterhouseCoopers" and the German transport-logistics company "Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG" and Certificate from the "Zeeland Seaports" company, which manages the container terminals of the ports of Hamburg and the Netherlands. The port is also listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest port below sea level. The World Book of Records named the artificial bird island, which was built to protect migratory birds when the port was built, as the "Largest Artificial Island below Sea Level".
Large-scale works on the development of Avaza's transport and logistics infrastructure were carried out. The marina is being upgraded, and the national fleet is being expanded with new steamships, yachts and other vessels. The city of Turkmenbashi will become the railway center of the North-South international transport corridor, which is being built to connect Europe and South Asia by a short route.
The construction of a powerful gas turbine power station, sea water desalination and purification facilities, the construction of the drinking water system complements the engineering and technical infrastructure and ensures the normal operation of the international marine recreation zone. A modern power plant with a capacity of 254 MW provides uninterrupted power supply to Avaza and is part of the country's integrated energy system. During the day and night, 35 thousand cubic meters of sea water desalination plant supplies water to hotels located in the tourist zone and green zones. It is built on the coast, equipped with new modern technical equipment and all other necessary engineering technical means.
Avaza River, which is 7 kilometers long, 50-70 meters wide and 4 meters deep, is one of the largest and unique structures of the tourist zone. There are 28 public food establishments (buffets, cafes, open-air restaurants with docks) located on both landscaped banks of the river. Small boats and pleasure boats ply on the river. Each of the numerous beautiful bridges over the river is distinguished by its unique decorative patterns.
There are more than 70 different types of facilities in Avaza National Tourist Zone, including tennis courts, basketball, volleyball and indoor football fields, which are part of the complex of sports facilities. All conditions for water sports competitions are provided here. On both sides of the river there are special junctions for pedestrians and cyclists. Exciting boat trips along the river are offered to the vacationers.
Most of the tourism zone is occupied by recreational parks and parks. In order to create more favorable climatic conditions, the expansion and development of the park zones is being carried out in the future. Unique plants from botanical gardens around the world are collected here, and fountain parks are distinguished by their variety and beauty. Day-to-day work is underway to transform the park into a thriving landscape.
Avaza National Tourist Zone has become a place of international business forums, consultations, meetings, international festivals, contests, concerts, sports events. A modern Congress Center has been put into operation in the tourist zone, where international forums and meetings are organized at a high level.
Apart from these, a sports complex meeting international standards has been commissioned. Yachts, boats, boats, catamarans, parasailing and others are just a few of the services offered to vacationers.
