On December 7, 2016 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan there was a meeting with a Senior Election Adviser of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the OSCE, Ms. Lusine Badalyan and Election Advisor of the ODIHR, Mr. Vladimir Misev who arrived in Turkmenistan to get acquainted with the progress of preparations for the elections of the President of Turkmenistan, planned for February 2017.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the progress of the preparatory work on the organization of elections in accordance with the generally recognized principles and norms of international law on the conduct of elections. It was noted that the ODIHR has a large positive experience in election observation and assistance activities to the legislature.
The OSCE/ODIHR delegation will also visit the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Adalat (Justice), the Central Commission for Elections and referendums, as well as with representatives of political parties, public organizations and mass media of Turkmenistan.
