On February 11, 2017 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov received the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Rashid Alimov, who arrived in the Turkmen capital at the head of the mission of international observers from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to the elections of the President of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting the sides noted that the potential of the SCO can and should be used to preserve a strong balance of regional security, conflict prevention, the approval of the negotiations as the only acceptable means of solving them. In this context, it was noted that Turkmenistan considers the development of relations with the SCO in an organic connection, with the forward progress of bilateral cooperation, as well as with the general orientation of its participation in regional economic processes.
Taking the opportunity, the Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, thanked the Turkmen side for the invitation to the upcoming February 12 presidential elections in Turkmenistan and wished Turkmen people success in carrying out this very important social-political action.
