On April 25, 2017, the 9th session of the Dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union in the field of human rights was held in Ashgabat. Representatives of such European Union institutions as the European External Action Service, the Directorate General for International Cooperation and Development of the European Commission and the European Union Liaison Office in Turkmenistan arrived to participate in the dialogue as part of the EU delegation.
Deputies of the Mejlis, officials of the ministries of foreign affairs, justice, internal affairs, labor and social security, representatives of the State Migration Service, the National Institute of Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan, the Department for Religious Affairs of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan participated in the work of the Dialogue.
During the meeting, issues of expanding cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU in the humanitarian sphere were discussed. Also, the sides exchanged views on such issues as the development of civil society, women's rights, economic, social and cultural rights, the rule of law and the reform of the judiciary, government institutions for the protection of human rights. In addition, during the dialogue, the EU delegation gave positive assessments to the results of the commencement of the implementation of the National Action Plan in the above areas.
