On May 19, 2017 in the evening, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Turkmenistan at the invitation of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
President of Uzbekistan was greeted by the officials at the international airport of Turkmenbashi city, decorated with the national flags of two friendly countries. Along the carpet path leading from the plane's ramp, in honor of the arrival of the head of Uzbekistan, the Honor Guard was aligned.
From the airport the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan went to the National Tourist Zone "Avaza", to his residence during the visit.
On May 20, in the first half of the day, the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held one-to-one talks at the Avaza Congress Center on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea.
Then the meeting was held in an extended format with the participation of the official delegations of the two countries. During the talks, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of Turkmen-Uzbek cooperation.
The heads of the two neighboring countries focused on issues of partnership in the political sphere, in particular, within the framework of international organizations, as well as the strengthening of peace and stability in the region and the Asian continent. A separate topic of the talks was the settlement of the situation in Afghanistan.
Also, Turkmen and Uzbek leaders discussed the development of bilateral cooperation in trade-economic, energy, transport-communication, environmental and other spheres. Particular attention was paid to partnership in the cultural, humanitarian and scientific fields. The parties agreed to intensify the holding of events in these areas - the Days of Culture of the two countries, creative, scientific forums and other actions that promote spiritual rapprochement and mutual enrichment of the two peoples.
After the talks between the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place in the Avaza Congress Center.
In the presence of the heads of states the following documents had been signed: a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and the Uzbekenergo joint-stock company on transit and transmission of electricity; Agreement between the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Environmental Protection and Land Resources and the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Environmental Protection on cooperation in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development; Protocol between the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Sport and the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Physical Culture and Sport on cooperation, as well as organizing the participation of Uzbek athletes in the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games; Memorandum of Cooperation between the Service "Turkmenhovayollary" and the National airline "Uzbekiston hawo ýullari"; Memorandum of Understanding between the State Concern "Turkmennebit" and the national holding company "Uzbeknefitgaz".
The parties also concluded an agreement on the establishment of sister-city relations between the cities of Ashgabat and Tashkent, and the Agreement on Cooperation between the Seyitnazar Seidi Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute and Tashkent State Pedagogical University named after Nizami.
After the ceremony of signing the documents, the leaders of the two countries addressed the representatives of the mass media.
At the end of the press conference, after leaving the congress center, the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan continued to communicate in an informal atmosphere. Sitting on bicycles, the leaders of the two countries headed for the sea moorage, on the way inspecting the attractions of Avaza.
Arriving at the marina, the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan boarded the yacht "Galkynyş" and cruised along the coast of the Caspian Sea.
Continuing the fact-finding tour of the National Tourist Zone, the heads of the two states used the services of a special resort park, which provides guests and holidaymakers with retro cars, electric cars and horse-drawn phaetons. Sowing in horse carriages, the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan proceeded to the new sports complex "Avaza", opened in April this year.
After inspecting the sports complex, the leaders of the two countries in one car headed for the residence of the President of Uzbekistan, where they warmly said goodbye and exchanged good wishes.
On the same day, after completing a working visit to our country, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev proceeded to the International Airport of Turkmenbashi, from where he left Turkmenistan.
