On June 8, 2017 in Bishkek a meeting of the High-level Dialogue on Politics and Security of the European Union - Central Asia took place.
The delegation of the European Union at the meeting was headed by the Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service J.C.Belliard. The delegations of the countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan were represented at the level of deputy foreign ministers.
The agenda of the meeting included questions of countering international and regional threats to security such as terrorism, radicalism, extremism; Joint actions of the countries of Central Asia and the European Union on border management and the fight against drugs within the framework of the European Union programs "BOMCA", "CADAP", "EU-ACT"; The current security situation in Afghanistan and the mechanisms for regional cooperation of the countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed the implementation of the EU Strategy for Central Asia, made concrete proposals on enhancing the effectiveness of cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, transport, education, environment and water resources.
All participants of the meeting noted the importance of unifying and coordinating the efforts of the European Union, Central Asia and Afghanistan to combat terrorism and extremism, positively noted the implementation of the 9th phase of the BOMCA program and the 6th phase of the CADAP program in Central Asia, discussed potential areas of cooperation within the framework of the implementation of the EU project on combating drugs and organized crime "EU-ACT".
Heads of delegations of the EU and Central Asian countries expressed support for the peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, noted the importance of further cooperation in the format of the EU-Central Asia Security Dialogue with the participation of Afghanistan.
