On June 3, 2024, according to the established good tradition, Turkmenistan widely celebrated World Bicycle Day. The President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the mass bicycle ride held in the capital on the occasion of this international holiday, which took its rightful place in the United Nations calendar.
As it is known, the corresponding Resolution, initiated by the National Leader of Turkmen people, Chairman of Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was unanimously adopted at the 72nd UN Humanity Session in 2018.
Recalling that in 2022, at the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, at the proposal of our country, the Resolution “Integration of mass cycling into public transport systems to achieve sustainable development” was adopted by a full consensus. As the President of Turkmenistan notes, sport, due to its unifying, inspiring nature, is called upon to serve the strengthening of the widespread peace and friendly relations between countries and nations.
One of the unique attractions of Ashgabat is the “Bicycle” monument, located at the intersection of Chandybil Avenue and Bekreve Street, where the route of the festive bike ride began. The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, heads of parliament, ministries, law enforcement agencies, the capital administration, public organizations, universities, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan attended the bicycle rides.
Among the participants were athletes of the national cycling team, students, students of the Young Olympians Training School and students of the «Döwletliler köşgi» Palace.
Having given the start to the mass bicycle ride, the head of the state led participants that began moving along the route running along the capital’s Chandybil and Bitarap Turkmenistan avenues.
The current event was also joined by the athletes participating in the cycling marathon organized for the first time in Turkmenistan alongside the Mary-Tejen-Ashgabat section of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway.
Along the way, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov inquired from Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers B. Annamammedow, who supervises the capital, about the progress of the work being carried out. The Deputy Prime Minister informed the head of the state about the measures being taken to further development of Ashgabat, maintain environmental well-being in the city, and about the progress of affairs at the facilities under construction.
Focusing on the development concept of Ashgabat, the head of the state instructed to keep under constant control the issues of improving the city infrastructure, proper care of the capital's parks and public gardens, creating comfortable living conditions for people, and opportunities for sports. Mentioning this, the head of state especially emphasized the importance of the environmental aspect of all ongoing work.
Covering the distance of the bike ride, the President of Turkmenistan finished at the final point - the capital's Ruhyýet Palace.
Here, the head of state warmly said goodbye to the participants of the mass sports and environmental action dedicated to the World Bicycle Day, and, wishing everyone health and success.
On the same day, on the occasion of the World Bicycle Day, mass bicycle rides were also organized in the city of Arkadag and in all regions of the country.
