On 18 September 2024, a meeting was held in the MFA of Turkmenistan between the head of International Organizations Department and the Director of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) Evren Rutbil. The meeting was also attended by the Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Chinar Rustemova.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the results of cooperation and defined the prospects for collaboration in the near future.
In the course of the conversation, the sides emphasized the effectiveness of joint activities on the preparation of the serial nomination “The Great Silk Road: Zarafshan - Karakum Corridor”, the decision to include it in the UNESCO World Heritage List was taken last September at the extended session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Riyadh.
The Turkmen side wished to the Director of IICAS success in his new position and expressed willingness to continue cooperation with the Institute on issues of historical and cultural development of Central Asia.
