On November 13, 2017, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the delegation of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) led by the Deputy Executive Secretary of this organization, Mr. Hongjoo Hahm, who arrived on a working visit to Turkmenistan.
Noting the positive dynamics of the development of bilateral cooperation, the sides exchanged views on the current state of relations between Turkmenistan and ESCAP. Transport and energy spheres, cooperation within the framework of the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia, information and communication were noted as important areas for Turkmenistan's cooperation with ESCAP.
During the negotiations, the Executive Secretary announced proposals for participation in the High-level Conference on SDGs for Asia and the Pacific, the Second Asia-Pacific Energy Forum, the 74th session of the ESCAP Commission which scheduled to be held in the first half of 2018.
During the meeting, the Deputy Executive Secretary of ESCAP made a special emphasis on the importance of RECCA VII in the context of Afghanistan's reconstruction, consistent and sustainable development in the region as a whole. Expressing adherence to the further progressive development of bilateral cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect and trust, the sides expressed the need for its further expansion.
