On November 16, 2017, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan a meeting was held with the European Union Special Envoy for Afghanistan Roland Kobia, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the VII Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA VII).
Participants of the meeting exchanged views on topical issues of the regional agenda, which included issues of the current security situation in Afghanistan and mechanisms for regional cooperation of the countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan. The sides expressed support for a peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan and noted the importance of further cooperation in the format of the EU-Central Asia Security Dialogue with the participation of Afghanistan. Noting Turkmenistan's interest in ensuring security, peace and sustainable development in Central Asia and Afghanistan, as well as the country's existing positive experience, proposals were made to consolidate joint efforts in this direction.
The agenda of the meeting included issues of countering international and regional threats to security, such as terrorism, radicalism, the fight against drugs within the framework of the European Union programs BOMCA, CADAP, joint actions of the Central Asian countries and the European Union on border management. In addition, the parties noted the significant role of the Seventh Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA VII) for further regional economic integration.
