On February 23, 2018, a briefing was held in the premises of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Seoul on the main aspects of Turkmenistan's foreign policy and prospects for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea.
Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, heads of the Secretariat of the Cooperation Forum "Central Asia-Korea", the Association of Friendship between the Republic of Korea and Central Asian countries, representatives of higher education institutions, business structures, and the media of the Republic of Korea attended the event.
During the briefing, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan delivered a speech in which the main aspects of Turkmenistan's foreign policy under the leadership of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov were noted, the efforts of our country, as a neutral state, aimed at addressing issues of global importance, the implementation of the goals of sustainable development, development of cooperation between the countries in the field of energy, transport, ecology, sports and other spheres.
It was particularly emphasized that on February 23, events will be held related to the launch of the construction of the Afghan section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the fiber-optic communication line along this route, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan power transmission line, railroad Serhetabat-Turgundi, which are not only of socio-economic importance, but also a factor of stability and prosperity in the region. Also, the state of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea was characterized and prospects for its development were noted.
Then director of the Secretariat of the Cooperation Forum "Central Asia-Korea" Mr. Lee Cheol-woo noted the balanced and measured nature of Turkmenistan's foreign policy. He highly appreciated the start of the launch of the next stage of construction of the TAPI and congratulated the Turkmen side on this success. Noting that Central Asia plays a big role given the geographical location and potential, he called for the development of comprehensive cooperation with Turkmenistan in the field of transport and energy, which are also among the priorities in Turkmenistan's foreign policy.
The President of the Korea-Central Asia Friendship Association, Ms. Lee Ok-Ryun, noted the stable and high growth of Turkmenistan's economy, and highly appreciated the country's peaceful foreign policy.
After the main part, the meeting continued in the "questions-answers" format. At the end of the briefing, the guests were offered dishes of Turkmen cuisine.
