On May 8, 2018, OSCE Human Dimension Committee meeting on "Gender Equality" took place in Vienna. The Ombudsman of Turkmenistan Y.Gurbannazarova attended this meeting and presented a report on the gender situation in the country.
In her speech, Y.Gurbannazarova informed the meeting about the gender policy of Turkmenistan, equal participation of women in all spheres of socio-political, economic, social and cultural life of the country. In particular, she noted that within the framework of the National Action Plan of the country on gender equality for 2015-2020, the Government of Turkmenistan has implemented concrete measures and actions. The Ombudsman stated that the status of women in Turkmenistan is determined by the overall strategy and priority directions of the state policy on women, the purpose of which is to implement the principle of equal rights and freedoms, create equal opportunities for men and women in accordance with the Constitution, international obligations and recommendations of the IV World Conference on women (Beijing, 1995), as well as the basic documents of the United Nations.
In addition, Y.Gurbannazarova informed the participants about the activities of the Institute of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan, which was opened in March 2017. Close cooperation of the Ombudsman's Institute with the OSCE, the UN and other international structures, as well as representatives of civil society was underlined as well.
