The main gas pipelines of Turkmenistan

Existing main gas pipelines of Turkmenistan are designed for long-term supply of natural gas, and create conditions for the fulfillment of international agreements on natural gas supplies, which contributes to the successful implementation of the national energy strategy for the stable transportation of energy resources to world markets.

Currently, in Turkmenistan is operated the following main export gas pipelines:

– The gas pipeline «Turkmenistan - China»

– The gas pipeline «Dowletabat - Deryalyk»

– The gas pipeline «Korpeje - Kurtkui»

– The gas pipeline «Dowletabat - Hangeran»

– The gas pipeline «East-West».

        The gas pipeline «Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China»

One of the main directions of Turkmen gas exports is the transnational gas pipeline «Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China». The total length of the pipeline, originating from the field Malay, and the fields on the right bank of Amudarya river, is more than 9000 kilometers. Of these, 490 km were laid through the territory - Uzbekistan, 1304 km - in Kazakhstan, and more than 7000 kilometers on the territory China - to major industrial centers such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and others where the gas is distributed to other existing gas networks.

On the territory of Turkmenistan gas pipeline has two branches. One of them the branch of the pipeline «Malay-Bagtiyarlyk» is operated by the State Concern «Turkmengaz», with length of 184.5 km and with a diameter of 1400 mm. The second branch of the gas pipeline is designed to deliver of gas from the contract area «Bagtiyarlyk», where as the operator acts the Chinese National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). This branch of the pipeline originates from the field Samandepe. The length of the branches is 76 km, including 67 km of gas pipeline with a diameter of 914 mm and 9 km of the pipeline with a diameter of 1069 mm. The transnational gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China was put into operation on December 14, 2009.

Currently 3 branches of «Turkmenistan-China» (Branches A, B, C) with a total capacity of 55 billion m3 per year is built. This stage of the pipeline is designed to supply 40 billion m3 of Turkmen gas per year.

Gas pipelines of the system «Dovletabad - Deryalyk»

State Concern «Turkmengaz» operates a system of main gas pipelines, that providing the export of Turkmen natural gas from the eastern and western gas production regions of Turkmenistan in the northern direction and include pipelines system of «Dowletabat - Deryalyk».

Including: «Nayip - Deryalyk» -with the diameter -1220 mm, 1020 mm, and length - 942 km; «Dowletabat -Deryalyk» - with the diameter 1420 mm, 1220 mm, and length - 3244.2 km; «Bukhara-Ural» with the diameter - 1020 mm – and length - 238.6 km.

At the same time operated pipelines for export of Turkmen natural gas from gas producing areas of western Turkmenistan - «Ekerem- Bekdash» with the diameters 530 mm, 720 mm and 1,020 mm and total length of 527 km to the border of Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan.

The gas pipeline «Korpeje - Kurtkui»

The opening of the pipeline took place in December 1997. The length of gas pipeline from the Turkmen gas field «Korpeje» to the Iranian city «Kurtkui» is 197 km, of which the length of the gas pipeline on the territory of Turkmenistan is 132 km. On this route of Turkmen gas is exported to the northern provinces of Iran under the purchase and sale contract of natural gas between the State Concern «Turkmengaz» and Iranian Gas Company. The annual volume of deliveries on this pipeline is 8 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

The gas pipeline «Dovletabad - Sarahs - Hangeran»

The opening of the pipeline took place in January 2010. The length of the Turkmen section of the gas pipeline, which originates from the largest gas field «Dovletabat» in the south-eastern Turkmenistan, to the settlement Salyr Yap on the border with Iran is 30.5 km. The design capacity of the pipeline is designed to annual deliver of 12.5 billion m3 of gas. Together with the existing main gas pipeline «Korpeje-Kurtkui» pipeline «Dovletabad - Sarahs - Hangeran» provide supply contract volumes of gas to 14 billion m3 per year, and in the future may increase up to 20 billion m3/year of Turkmen gas to Iranian consumers.

The gas pipeline «East-West»

Construction and installation work on the route of the gas pipeline with the length of approximately  773 kilometers, with a diameter of 1,420 mm and a design annual capacity of 30 billion cubic meters, is carried out by divisions of State Corporations «Turkmengaz» and «Turkmennebitgazgurlushyk». Along the route of the gas pipeline project is stipulated the construction of several gas compressor stations and other infrastructure. In December 2016 took place the ceremony of laying the pipeline.

This pipeline runs from the compressor station «Shatlyk» in Mary province, and connects the large deposits of east of the country with its western regions.

Lying on the territory of Mary, Ahal and Balkan provinces, the compressor station «Belek» in Balkan province became its final point.

The gas pipeline «East-West» will expand the gas transport infrastructure of Turkmenistan will contribute to the integral formation of system of gas provision to the metallurgical plant in Ruhabat, textile complex, enterprises producing construction materials, industrial sectors in Abadan. It should also be noted that the pipeline will contribute to the export of natural gas to any desired area of Turkmenistan.
