On December 10-11, 2014, the first meeting of international expert group to elaborate a new international legal instrument designed to ensure adherence to the general principles of doing business in the global energy space took place in Ashgabat. Expert group meeting held in pursuance of initiated by President of Turkmenistan UN General Assembly resolution from May 17, 2013 «Reliable and Stable Transit of energy resources and its Role in Ensuring Sustainable Development and International Cooperation».
The work of the international meeting was attended by representatives of the United Nations in Turkmenistan, members of the Secretariat of the Energy Charter, international organizations and agencies, government bodies of foreign countries and Turkmenistan, international experts.
Participants emphasized the relevance of the Ashgabat Forum of Energy Charter «Reliable and stable transit of energy resources», on which the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a keynote speech on the relevance to develop new approaches of global energy security.
The meeting, which took place in the form of thematic sessions, discussed the need for producer countries, transit countries and consumers, as well as legal, investment and operational aspects of international cooperation in the energy sector. Following the meeting, the participants of the international expert group adopted the Declaration.
