On June 9, 2023, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Korea organized a joint Turkmen-Korean international scientific and creative online conference titled "Magtymguly Pyragy and the world values", devoted to the 300th anniversary of the birth of the classical poet Magtymguly Pyragy.
This event was attended by professors Dr. Eom Gu Ho and Dr. Sejin Jung of Hanyang University, President of the Korea Eurasian Policy Institute Dr. Jae-Nam Ko, research professor at the Pai Chai University Dr. Songwoong Kwak, lecturer at the Chonnam National University Dr. Kwang Tae Lee, research fellow at the Seoul National University Asia Center Dr. A Young Choi, professor at the Inha University Dr. Dongki Sung, professors Dr. Youngsam Hwang and Dr. Jieun Lee from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, professor at Kukmin University Dr. Jaewon Jeong, and the researchers of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, professors and students of the Turkmen State University named after Magtymguly and the Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute named after Seyitnazar Seydi, as well as representatives of the academic research communities of the two countries.
At the beginning of the conference, Director of the Asia-Pacific Research Center at Hanyang University Dr. Eom Gu Ho emphasized that not only Korean academic researchers, but also the whole world are interested in the life of Magtymguly Pyragy, who was a great poet of his time and was the first to introduce the Turkmen literature to the world.
During his speech at the event, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Korea H.E. Mr. Begench Durdyyev noted that the classical poet Magtymguly Pyragy was a good-will representative of the Turkmen nation in establishing humanitarian relations, as well as the founder of the Turkmen national literature.
Speakers at the conference stressed that the creative legacy of the great poet of the East Magtymguly Pyragy brought together the ideas of the poets and researchers before him and gave these ideas a new character. The participants of the conference also emphasized that the translation of the collection of the poet’s poems into the Korean language, as well as translations into the other languages of the world, will greatly assist the international academic research community in their study of the Turkmen history and literature.
