On September 13, 2021, the first meeting of Joint Turkmen-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission on water management issues had been held in Tashkent.
Turkmen delegation at the meeting was led by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan E.Orazgeldiyev, Uzbek side was led by Deputy Prime-minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh.Ganiyev.
During the meeting, the issues of cooperation in the operation of water facilities and use of the water resources of the Amu Darya River, as well as use of water facilities on the territory of two countries were discussed.
The sides exchanged the views on the development of bilateral and regional cooperation in the sphere of water management. In this regard, the importance of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, Interstate Coordination Water Commission and Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development and their structural units in the development of regional cooperation was underlined.
In addition, the sides considered the issues of scientific-technical cooperation on water resources. In this context, the participants of the meeting expressed readiness to carry out work on the development and implementation of projects and programs of bilateral collaboration in the field of rational use of water resources, introduction of new technologies and utilization of collector-drainage and waste water.
At the end of the meeting the parties signed the Protocol of the first meeting of Joint Turkmen-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission on water management issues.
