On June 23, 2017, a round table was held in the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan to discuss and agree on the institutional structure of the monitoring system for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including the functions and tasks of ministries and departments, as well as determining further actions for its practical implementation.
Representatives of the ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, heads of representations of the agencies and UN structural units in Turkmenistan participated in the round table.
During the meeting, the presentation of the proposed institutional structure of the SDG monitoring system, including the relevant functions and tasks of the ministries and departments of Turkmenistan presented by the UN expert Gereltuya Altankhuyag, was discussed, as well as the proposed plan and timetable for further development of the SDG measurement system in Turkmenistan.
During the discussions, the participants noted that the process of implementation of the SDG in Turkmenistan is a coordinated system in which a large role is given to the issue of monitoring and evaluation, as the SDG implementation is aimed at improving the development indicators in the economy and society as a whole. The participants of the round table discussed issues of strategy and planning of the SDG implementation, coordination of efforts of the ministries and departments of the country, including with UN agencies working in Turkmenistan.
