On March 27, 2023, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, met with the Governor of the Belgian province of Antwerp Cathy Beres.
During the meeting, the parties considered issues of expanding multilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and the province of Antwerp.
Given the similarity of urban infrastructures, the ambassador put forward an initiative to establish close ties between the port cities of Turkmenbashi and Antwerp, as well as to establish sister city relations between them. This proposal was accepted with great interest.
Along with this, the ambassador held a presentation of the new city of Arkadag, familiarizing with the features of urban development of the first "smart" city in Turkmenistan. In this context, the Belgian side was invited to explore the possibility of implementing joint projects with the participation of investors from the province of Antwerp in the field of information technology, digitalization and urban planning.
