On April 14, an online meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Mr. Vepa Hajiyev, and the IOM Regional Coordinator for Central Asia, Mr. Zeynal Gadzhiev.
The parties discussed further practical steps to implement the Action plan of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IOM for 2022. In particular, special attention was paid to joint activities in two main areas: combating human trafficking and assistance to migrants, technical cooperation and border management.
In the first direction, the need was noted for the full implementation of the National Action Plan of Turkmenistan on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings for 2019-2022.
Within the second direction, the Turkmen side expressed gratitude for the work on the medium-term national project on relationship between migration, the environment and climate change.
In addition, parties discussed the issues of further implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration in the light of the upcoming Global Forum on Migration, which will be held May 17-20, 2022 at the UN Headquarters in New York.
