On 24 November 2023, an event dedicated to the celebration of the World Day for Sustainable Transport was held at the UN Office in Geneva.
The event was attended by heads and representatives of various international organizations, including the UNECE, the UNCTAD, the International Road Union (IRU), the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA), the International Trade Centre (ITC), the WHO, the European Cyclist’s Federation, the International Union of Railways, the International Association of Public Transport, as well as representatives of some countries.
During the event, the Turkmen side was represented by the Deputy Director General of the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan B.Annaev.
In his speech, B.Annaev noted about Turkmenistan's domestic and foreign policy in the field of transport, in particular, the consistent improvement and modernisation of infrastructure for effective integration of the country into the world transport system, the integration of modern and environmentally friendly modes of transport into our daily life and ensuring accessibility of all modes of transport for the population of the country. In addition, it was marked about the Transport Diplomacy Development Programme implemented in the country for the period of 2022-2025.
World Sustainable Transport Day is celebrated for the first time this year. The date of the holiday - 26 November - was established based on the initiated by Turkmenistan UN resolution of May 16, 2023.
