On February 28, 2024, at the UNESCO headquarters, a meeting took place between Mr. Maksat Chariev, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Turkmenistan to UNESCO, and Mr. Anthony Ohemeng-Boamah, Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations. The meeting focused on the key aspects of the upcoming International Conference of Ministers of Culture, scheduled for May 17-18 in Ashgabat, and discussions on the prospects for cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCO.
Furthermore, the meeting also covered other Turkmen initiatives related to the international commemoration of the 300th birthday anniversary of the great Turkmen poet and thinker, Magtymguly Fragi. These initiatives received the support of UNESCO in accordance with the resolution adopted at the 42nd session of the General Conference of UNESCO in November 2023, in connection with which cultural events were announced at UNESCO headquarters, including a gala concert and an exhibition for the occasion.
Both parties expressed their confidence that the successful execution of these events would further strengthen the cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCO.
