From 16 to 18 April 2024, the delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the 2024 ECOSOC Youth Forum entitled “Strengthening the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in the face of multiple crises: effectively implementing sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions”.
The forum was attended by UN leadership, representatives of governments and youth organizations of member states, representatives of non-governmental organizations in consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council and other stakeholders in the youth sector.
In his speech, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres noted that the new UN Youth Bureau was created to promote advocacy, coordination, participation and accountability for young people. It was also announced that the process of updating the organization’s Youth Strategy had begun.
During the forum, plenary sessions were held on various topics, such as combating climate change, eradicating poverty and access to education.
The workshops provided an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences and views on various areas such as: youth entrepreneurship for sustainable development, driving innovation for social good and promoting peace and security through youth leadership.
Speaking during one of the plenary sessions, a representative of the delegation of Turkmenistan noted that youth is a priority of national and state interests. The country has adopted and is successfully implementing the “State Youth Policy Program for 2021-2025” and the “Strategy for International Cooperation of Youth of Turkmenistan for 2023-2030.” It was emphasized that the country’s youth took an active part in such international events as COP 28 and the UNESCO Youth Forum.
