On 21 November 2024, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine hosted a cultural event entitled “The Thinker of the East Magtymguly Fragi and the Contribution of the Humanist Poet to the Treasury of Universal Spiritual Values”.
The event was attended by representatives of scientific and creative intelligentsia, cultural and artistic figures, scholars of Ukraine, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, mass media, Turkmen diaspora, as well as students.
The speakers underlined the importance of further scientific study and wide popularization of the Turkmen cultural heritage in the world, with a focus on the poetry of the humanist poet Magtymguly Fragi, who stood for enduring values of the ideals of peace, unity and justice.
The importance of the publication this year of the complete collection of the translations of poet’s poems in Ukrainian “Matymguly Fragi. 300th anniversary. Revelation.” was noted. A special role in popularizing the works of the master of the poetic word belongs to the Library named after Magtymguly in Kyiv, where a large number of thematic events were held during the year.
Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Ukraine T.Ataev read the text of the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan on awarding the jubilee medal of Turkmenistan “Magtymguly Pyragynyň 300 ýyllygyna” (To the 300th anniversary of Magtymguly Fragi) to the head of the All-Ukrainian “Prosvita” Society named after T.Shevchenko P.Movchan and presented the high award on behalf of the Government of Turkmenistan to the famous researcher and translator of Magtymguly’s works.
The Ambassador of Turkmenistan also congratulated the second recipient of the medal “Magtymguly Pyragynyň 300 ýyllygyna”, Professor N. Vaskiv, who received the award personally from the Chairwoman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan D. Gulmanova in October this year in Ashgabat.
Then the ceremony of presenting memorable gifts to Ukrainian book publishers, authors of books, translators and librarians for their special contribution to popularization of the rich literary heritage of Magtymguly, strengthening of friendship and cultural-educational cooperation between the countries was held.
Also, the work of Ukrainian cultural and educational figures who regularly participate in the events organized by the Embassy was especially mentioned.
As part of the cultural event, an exhibition took place where books of the National Leader of Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan and the President of Turkmenistan, as well as pieces of Turkmen folk-applied art, national clothes and jewellery, photo materials on the cultural heritage of Turkmen people were presented. During the event, representatives of Turkmen youth performed a cultural programme.
