On February 6, 2025, a roundtable entitled “Central Asia and Azerbaijan Ambassadorial Dialogue of 2025 on Regional Connectivity” was held at the Institute of Regional Studies Islamabad (IRSI).
Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, IRSI President Jawhar Salim, and the Ambassadors of Central Asian countries and Azerbaijan gave speeches at the event.
Strengthening political and diplomatic ties, exploring ways to increase trade and investment, promoting energy cooperation and regional connectivity, developing contacts between research institutes and expanding cultural diplomacy, as well as cooperation on strengthening resilience to climate change among the countries of the region were named as pertinent fields of cooperation.
In his speech, Ambassador of Turkmenistan A. Movlamov described a number of major energy and infrastructure projects initiated by Turkmenistan, including TAPI and TAP. Particular attention was paid to the construction of the Serhetabat–Herat section of the TAPI transnational gas pipeline.
In this context, it was emphasized that in addition to ensuring energy security, these projects will undoubtedly give impetus to the economic development of the region, have a positive impact on the environment, will contribute to the creation of thousands of additional jobs and improve the well-being of the people of the participating countries.
The Ambassador also drew the attention of the participants to the importance of the adoption by the UN General Assembly of a Resolution on declaring 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust upon the initiative of Turkmenistan.
In this regard, the role of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy aimed at consolidating international efforts to strengthen peace and trust was emphasized.
