On November 28, 2017 in Ashgabat, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan had a meeting with the Secretary General of the OSCE Thomas Greminger, who arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the 28th session of the Energy Charter Conference.
During the meeting, the current state and prospects of interaction between Turkmenistan and the OSCE were analyzed. Noting the commitment to expanding further cooperation, the sides discussed cooperation in the military-political, economic-ecological and humanitarian fields. Speaking about Turkmenistan's active work in the international arena, the sides noted the potential of positive neutrality of the country in the implementation of regional and international tasks. In this context, the parties paid attention to the importance of cooperation in the international arena and considered a number of issues for further consolidation of efforts to strengthen peace, security and development.
Among the areas of further cooperation, the parties noted the role of interaction in the energy and transport-logistics spheres in ensuring sustainable development in the region. In this context, the role of the Agreement on transit and transport cooperation signed in Ashgabat within the framework of the VII Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA VII) was noted.
The parties stressed the importance of ensuring the reliability and safety of international energy flows, as well as strengthening the legal protection of supply routes by developing a new international legal mechanism that guarantees the implementation of generally accepted rules of conduct on the global energy market. In this context, the importance of the 28th session of the Energy Charter Conference was noted.
In addition, within the framework of the talks, the parties paid attention to cooperation plans in 2018, discussing the most promising projects planned for implementation by the Government of Turkmenistan jointly with the OSCE Center in Ashgabat.
