The establishment of the Regional Center for Climate Technology in Ashgabat was discussed on the sidelines of the Bonn Climate Conference

On June 8, a meeting was held on the sidelines of the Global Climate Conference, taking place in Bonn, between the Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN) as an operational arm of the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism and delegations from Central Asian countries to discuss issues related to the establishment of the Regional Center for Climate Technology in Central Asia (RCCT-CA) in Ashgabat in partnership with CTCN.

The meeting, organized in a hybrid format at the initiative of the CTCN and the Turkmen side, was attended by delegations from Central Asian countries participating in the Bonn Climate Conference, as well as representatives of international and regional organizations, including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC), Michael Succow Foundation for the Protection of Nature and others.

During the meeting, the main directions of activities of the future Regional Center for Climate Technology related were discussed in detail. Parties emphasized the importance of the initiative of Turkmenistan. In particular, it was noted that such a center could assist the states of the Central Asian region in exchanging experience and knowledge, disseminating information about climate technologies, as well as strengthening partnerships between the national focal points dealing with climate change issues.

It was underlined that the programs and projects implemented under the auspices of the Climate Technology Center and Network (CTCN) can bring tangible practical results of joint work in the field of mitigation and adaptation to the impact of climate change in Central Asia.

The meeting participants also noted the need to continue the dialogue at various international and regional platforms on institutional, technical and other aspects related to the establishment of the Regional Center in Ashgabat in partnership with CTCN.
