On 15 March 2023 the delegation of Turkmenistan led by Rahimberdi Jepbarov, Chairman of the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan has held discussions with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organisation and with Xiangchen Zhang, WTO Deputy Director General.
During the meetings the Turkmen side has stressed readiness of the Government of Turkmenistan to work with the WTO member states and other interested parties to start the accession process and reiterated strong commitment of the Government to become a full-fledged member of the WTO.
The interest of Turkmenistan in deepening cooperation with this large authoritative international organization was confirmed, which, in turn, will contribute to the further stable economic development of the country.
The Director General stressed that the WTO highly appreciates the economic strategy of Turkmenistan and measures for its implementation.
The parties expressed confidence that in the near future progress will be made in the work carried out in accordance with the plans for interaction between Turkmenistan and the WTO.
