On October 25-26, 2023, the "Global Gateway" forum, organized by the European Commission, is being held in Brussels, which brought together the heads and representatives of the governments of the EU and partner countries, the private sector and other interested parties.
The purpose of the forum is to demonstrate progress in the implementation of the "Global Gateway" strategy, in which the EU plans to invest in communications, healthcare, education and scientific research around the world.
The event was opened by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
Within the framework of the Forum, the Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Serdar Joraev made a statement regarding the current state and perspective of the infrastructure development of our country. In the context of the importance of the development of the transport sector for global interconnectivity, the minister noted the relevance of the projects initiated by Turkmenistan on the diversification of transport and energy routes. In particular, a number of priority investment regional projects in the field of transport, which may also be of interest to Europe, have been identified.
On October 25, on the sidelines of Forum the Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan S. Jorayev met with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odile Renaud-Basso.
During the meeting, the main directions and priorities of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EBRD were determined. The minister informed the head of the EBRD about the progress of the country in the process of accession to the WTO and the preparation of the Memorandum on the foreign trade regime of Turkmenistan.
The issue of intensification of the EBRD's work in Turkmenistan, both with the private sector and with regard to the implementation of priority regional projects in the field of transport, was also discussed.
On the same day, with the participation of the delegation of Turkmenistan, the signing ceremony of the agreement between the EU and the International Trade Center on the implementation of the project "Turkmenistan-EU: Increasing stability and integration of trade" was held. This joint project of EU and ITC is designed to support Turkmenistan in the process of its accession to the WTO.
As part of the signing ceremony, the Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan noted the active integration of the country into the world trade system and emphasized the importance of measures taken by Turkmenistan to improve the country's regulatory framework in accordance with WTO norms and standards.
