On October 31, 2023, the 9th meeting of the Council of Heads of State Theaters of the participating countries of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) was held in the city of Shusha, Republic of Azerbaijan. This event is dedicated to the announcement of the city of Shusha this year as the cultural capital of TURKSOY, the 30th anniversary of TURKSOY, the 100th anniversary of the birth of the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev and the 150th anniversary of the founding of the National Theater of Azerbaijan.
The meeting participants exchanged views on the development of international theatrical cooperation, while emphasizing the importance of further promoting ties between theaters.
It was decided to hold the next 10th meeting of the Council of Heads of State Theaters of the participating countries of the International Organization of Turkic Culture in the city of Anau, which was declared the cultural capital of TURKSOY in 2024.
Following the meeting, a corresponding document was signed.
On November 1, the opening ceremony of the 1st TURKSOY International Theater Festival took place at the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theater. Secretary General of TURKSOY S.Raev spoke at the ceremony and noted that the festival united the theatrical community of the Turkic states, and also emphasized the importance of further development of international theatrical cooperation.
As part of the theater festival, artists from the National Music and Drama Theater of Turkmenistan named after Magtymguly presented the play “Love and Sorrow.”
