On October 1-2, 2018, in Geneva, within the framework of the 64th session of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR), the second periodic report of Turkmenistan on the implementation of the provisions of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights was reviewed.
The Turkmen delegation at this event was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs V.Hadzhiev. The delegation included representatives of the Ministries of Health and the medical industry, labor and social protection of the population, culture, as well as the Institute of State, Law and Democracy.
During the consideration of the report, CESCR experts were informed in detail of the progress made by Turkmenistan in the areas shown by the International Covenant since the submission of the previous report in 2011.
In the framework of the dialogue of experts of the CESCR with the Turkmen delegation, which was held in a constructive manner, issues of equal rights of men and women, protection of families and children, including issues of ensuring the rights to work, to just and favorable working conditions, to social security, physical and mental health, education, and trade union and cultural rights.
The Committee gave a positive assessment of the quality of the main and additional materials prepared by the Turkmen side and readiness for discussing the various issues covered by the International Covenant.
Following the consideration of the report of Turkmenistan, the Committee will prepare its concluding observations with recommendations on the entire block of economic, social and cultural rights, which will be sent to the Turkmen side in due course.
