On October 15, 2018, regional training course «Good Practices in Border Security and Management to Strengthen National and Regional Capacities in Countering Terrorism» has started and it was organized by the UN Regional Center for Central Asia for Preventive Diplomacy (UNRCCA) in close cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
Activities related to countering and preventing terrorism in the region are undertaken by joint efforts of the UN Regional Center and the UN Counter-Terrorism Office within the Third phase of regional project «Towards a Comprehensive Implementation of the UN Global Counter Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia» and it has been initiated during High-level event in April this year in Ashgabat.
The representatives of Central Asian countries, observer states, international organizations, as well as employees from relevant ministries and agencies of Turkmenistan have attended the workshop. The representatives from the UN Counter-Terrorism Office, UNODC and International Organization for Migration delivered lectures at the training course.
The speakers in their welcome remarks noted that ensuring long-term and inclusive security is a key issue for Central Asian states. It is obvious that one of key aspects in the security area of regional agenda is to counter terrorism at the national, regional and global levels.
Training courses are divided into sessions and will last for five days. It is planned to discuss various measures to enhance transboundary cooperation and border security policy harmonization aimed at effectively countering terrorism, capacity building for border management, international standards and initiatives in the field of combating terrorism in the framework of the training courses.
