On November 6-8, 2018, Turkmen delegation headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan was on a working visit to Kabul, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to discuss priority areas of Tukmen-Afghan bilateral cooperation.
In the course of the working visit, Turkmen delegation was recieved by Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. During the meeting the sides discussed the issues of further expanding bilateral cooperation.
Then the meeting between the Foreign Ministers of the two countries was held. Afghan delegation was headed by Mr. Salahuddin Rabbani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan has expressed satisfaction over present activities to strengthen bilateral relations and expressed his gratitude to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for paying great attention to large projects in the region, especially TAPI gas pipeline and TAP electric power transmission line.
Moreover, the parties have noted that recently Ashgabat hosted the 7th meeting of the Turkmen-Afghan Intergovernmental Comission on economic cooperation and its important role to further develop cooperation in trade-economic, fuel-energy, transport-communications and cultural-humanitarian fields.
Later, the 5th session of Joint Turkmen-Afghan Working Group on Security Affairs was organized and the meeting was chaired by the Foreign Ministers of the two countries. A number of important issues including activities related to security in the bordering regions have been discussed. The Foreign Ministers have signed the Protocol at the end of the session.
Besides that, within the framework of the visit the delegation of Turkmenistan held bilateral meetings with the Chief Executive of Afghanistan as well as with Afghanistan President’s National Security Advisor, Secretary of Security Council of Afghanistan.
