On November 28, 2016 President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani arrived at the railway station Ymamnazar to participate in the ceremony of putting into operation the first stage of the Asian international railway corridor.
President of Turkmenistan opened a new "Ymamnazar" terminal for receiving, storage and shipment of oil in the Turkmen-Afghan border. Putting into operation of the terminal was held via teleconference with a place of celebrations to mark the entry of the first phase of the Asian international railway corridor. Terminal capacity is 540 thousand tons; oil will be delivered to the terminal by rail, then shipped for export in special-purpose vehicles.
Then the "golden juncture" of the railway section Atamyrat-Ymamnazar (Turkmenistan) - Akina (Afghanistan) was fastened - the first stage of the Asian international railway corridor. During the ceremony on the Turkmen-Afghan border bolts of the "golden link" of new rail lines were fastened by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.
The first freight train had been sent by rail Atamyrat-Ymamnazar-Akina - the first stage of the Asian international railway corridor. The train composed of 46 wagons followed to the territory of Afghanistan from Turkmenistan. Cargo - flour, grain, cement, urea and sulfur was presented by Turkmen side to Afghanistan as the gift.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani arrived at Akina station by train from the Turkmen-Afghan border, cut the ribbon and opened the station Akina in Afghanistan - the end point of the first stage of the Asian international railway corridor.
It was stressed in this regard the historical significance of the event - commissioning of new railway Atamyrat-Imamnazar (Turkmenistan) - Akina (Islamic Republic of Afghanistan), which has great importance for the restoration of economic and social infrastructure of the neighboring country, creation of the new jobs and raising living standards of the Afghan people.
