On the 27th of March 2019, Turkmen-Italian political consultations were held in the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The delegation of the Italian Republic was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mr. Manlio Di Stefano who arrived to Ashgabat on a working visit.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the state and perspectives of Turkmen-Italian relations. Alongside, an exchange of views took place on regional and international issues possessing mutual interest, including cooperation in the framework of the UN and EU.
The possibility of diversifying the EU strategy for Central Asia was underlined. In this regard, being one of the key states of the European Union, Italy plays a vital role in further implementation of this document.
During the negotiations, the parties agreed that trade-economic cooperation must continue being the priority in bilateral partnership with an accent on this sphere. Simultaneously, the delegations underlined the significance of further development in the sphere of education, science and culture.
Upon completion of the negotiations, the parties signed “Cooperation program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic for 2019-2020”. Then the head of the guest delegation addressed to the representatives of mass media.
