On February 1, 2017 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan had a meeting with the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Elena Panova, in the course of which they reviewed the issues of Turkmenistan's cooperation with the UN.
The Turkmen side stressed that Turkmenistan considers the UN as its strategic partner and therefore intends to further strengthen cooperation with the Community of Nations, the specialized organizations, institutions, United Nations agencies on a wide range of issues.
In this context, they highlighted the key priority areas of the partnership, such as security, development, humanitarian sphere.
Particular attention was paid to the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDG) at the national level, stressing that Turkmenistan currently leads this work in a systematic manner, using the basic criteria and indicators of the SDG in the preparation of national programs and plans for socio-economic and human development.
In order to intensify contacts between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations system for the successful implementation of the SDG and other global strategies and concepts of the UN the sides agreed to hold a series of bilateral substantive consultations in the near future.
