Signing of the Agreement between IFAS and World Bank at the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan

Today, on December 3, 2019, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with Ms. Liliya Burunchuk, Regional Director for Central Asia of the World Bank, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit.

During a constructive conversation, the parties, expressing gratitude for an active position in fulfilling common goals in various areas of bilateral cooperation, discussed pressing issues of multilateral cooperation.

As is known, Turkmenistan presides over the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in 2017-2019. As part of the chairmanship, a discussion of socio-economic and environmental issues is currently underway, as well as the development of the fourth “Program for Assisting the Aral Sea Basin Countries” (ASBP-4).

The World Bank has expressed its willingness to participate in the development of a program to assist countries in the Aral Sea basin, which specifies the provision of international expert and advisory services and financial support in organizing regional meetings and events, as well as in preparing the Central Asian Water Strategy.

Also within the framework of the meeting, the signing ceremony of the Agreement between the World Bank and the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea on Additional Financing of the Project for the Modernization of Hydrometeorological Services in Central Asia was held.

The ceremony of signing the Agreement was attended by the heads and employees of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan, the delegation of the World, representatives of IFAS member countries and media representatives.
