A delegation headed by the Chairman of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan takes part in the First Global Refugee Forum, which takes place on December 17 - 18, 2019 at the UN Geneva office.
The forum is attended by the heads of several states, international organizations, experts, representatives of non-governmental organizations, as well as representatives of enterprises and companies.
The UN Secretary General A. Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Refugees F. Grande, Advisor to the Federal Council, and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation I. Cassis spoke at the opening ceremony of the forum in Geneva.
Also at the opening ceremony of the forum were heard presentations by the Presidents of the Republic of Turkey and Costa Rica, the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The delegation of Turkmenistan spoke at the plenary session of the forum, noting the particular importance of the work being carried out in this direction, expressed the country's full commitment to its obligations in connection with accession to fundamental international documents and UN Conventions.
Noting the special significance of the adopted Ashgabat Declaration following the International Conference held in Ashgabat in 2012 by the Government of Turkmenistan, together with the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the head of the Turkmen delegation called on the international community and host governments of refugee countries to expand their capacity to assist and support refugees and implement obligations arising from the Ashgabat Declaration.
The implementation of measures and the adoption of measures consistent with the goals and objectives of the General Development, in turn, will expand cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
During the working visit to Geneva, meetings of the delegation of Turkmenistan with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration and with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees are also planned.
