On March 4-5, 2020, under the instruction of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov and the State Minister, Chairman of “Turkmengas” Concern M.Archayev were on the visit to the Kingdom of Morocco.
On the first day of the visit, the Turkmen delegation was received by the Prime Minister of Morocco, Saadeddin Osmani. During the conversation, the interest of both states in promoting bilateral relations was emphasized, as well as the similarity of positions in maintaining peace, stability and security throughout the world. The parties noted the commitment of the two countries and peoples to historical values and traditions. The parties considered the possibility of developing Turkmen-Moroccan relations in the political, economic and cultural-humanitarian fields.
On the same day, the delegation took part in political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Morocco. The delegation of the Kingdom of Morocco was led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nasser Burita. In the beginning of the meeting, Minister R.Meredov presented to his Moroccan counterpart the invitation from the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov addressed to His Majesty the King of Morocco on attending the celebrations in honor of the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, scheduled for December of the current year.
The parties discussed the current state of bilateral relations, as well as cooperation between Turkmenistan and Morocco within the framework of international organizations, in particular the UN and OIC. The importance of developing a regulatory framework for cooperation was noted.
Diplomats considered the possibilities of developing trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian ties. An exchange of views took place regarding the possibilities of increasing commodity circulation between the countries, and the organization of joint business forums. The possibility of holding cultural events, including the organization of the Days of Culture, was also discussed.
As part of the consultations, the parties signed a number of bilateral documents designed to further strengthen bilateral relations.
During the visit, the Turkmen delegation also met with the President of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Morocco Habib El Maliki, the President of the House of Councils of the Parliament of Morocco Hakim Benchamach, Minister of Economy, Finance and Administrative Reforms of Morocco Mohammed Benchaaboun, as well as with the representatives of the private sector of the country.
