On May 7, 2020, the political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey were held in the videoconference format.
The Turkmen delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Hajiyev, while the Turkish side was led by the Director of the Main Department for Central Asia and Caucasus of the MFA of Turkey Yonet Can Tezel.
The parties discussed the essential issues of bilateral Turkmen-Turkish relations and the collaboration in the framework of international organizations. It was emphasized that the high-level contacts, as well as the regular consultations between the external policy agencies of the two countries serve as a vital factor for the advancement of relations.
The diplomats considered the situation with the coronavirus pandemic, including the measures adopted for countering its spread, as well as the options for collaboration in this regard. The impact of the pandemic situation on trade-economic ties of two countries was also discussed, in particular the issues related to the freight traffic and transportation.
Speaking about the necessity of coordinated actions during the restoration of economic activities, the parties noted the role of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Turkish Commission on Economic Cooperation and the Turkmen-Turkish Business Council. The subjects in the area of energy and establishment of transport-transit corridors were also considered.
The diplomats also discussed further development of cultural-humanitarian relations. The collaboration in the field of science and education was touched upon.
