On May 20, 2020, a telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Francois-Philippe Champagne.
During the conversation, the parties exchanged views on the current situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic and measures to counter its spread. At the same time, mutual readiness for the implementation of coordinated actions was emphasized, using the opportunities of bilateral partnership.
The subject of discussion was also the economic and social consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, regarding which the need was stressed to intensify inclusive mutual assistance of the world community in order to quickly and effectively respond to modern challenges.
The heads of foreign affairs agencies also discussed the current state and future prospects of Turkmen-Canadian interaction in the political-diplomatic and cultural spheres. An exchange of views also took place regarding the building up of effective cooperation between Turkmenistan and Canada on international platforms, especially within the UN, where two friendly states have accumulated solid experience of mutual support and mutual understanding.
