On June 26, 2020, an online meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.Meredov with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Turkmenistan (with residence in Ankara) Jamal Khokhar took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
Having exchanged warm greetings, the parties expressed the interest of Turkmenistan and Canada in building long-term relationship in various areas of mutual interest.
The importance of cooperation between the foreign affairs agencies of the two countries was noted. The parties noted the similarity of positions regarding topical issues on the global agenda, which reflects on successful cooperation within the framework of authoritative international organizations, in particular the UN.
The parties also discussed the current situation arisen due to the coronavirus pandemic in the world, including the activities on searching for ways of overcoming it. In this context, the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan on applying the scientific diplomacy tools, including the establishment of an International Council of Medical Scientists was voiced. The opportunities for the development of cooperation in this sphere were considered.
Diplomats considered the possibility of interaction in the fields of trade and economy, education, preventive and water diplomacy, and also spoke about cultural and humanitarian cooperation. Over the course of many affairs, joint cultural events are planned, and cooperation in the field of education is carried out.
At the end of the talks, the Ambassador of Canada to Turkmenistan Jamal Khokhar noted that he would make every effort for the sustainable development of Turkmen-Canadian relations.
