On March 14 2017, the 8th meeting of the Turkmen-Armenian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation was held in Yerevan.
Opening the meeting, the co-chairman of the commission from the Armenian side, the Minister of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia Ashot Manukyan emphasized that at present bilateral relations have acquired a dynamic and progressive nature characterized by openness, mutual trust and mutual understanding.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the course of political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation. It was stressed that due to mutual efforts, Turkmen-Armenian relations are aimed at a consistent and dynamic increase in the volume of bilateral trade, access to new forms of cooperation in various ways. The priority sectors of the partnership included energy, transport, agro-industrial complex, financial and banking sphere, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
As a result of the negotiations, the protocol of the intergovernmental commission meeting was signed and priority directions of the interstate dialogue were determined for the forthcoming period.
Within the framework of the intergovernmental commission meeting, political consultations were held between the foreign ministries of the two countries, during which the constructive nature of the political and diplomatic cooperation between Turkmenistan and Armenia was noted, both at the bilateral level and within the framework of international organizations.
On March 14, in the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, a presentation of the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games which will take place in Ashgabat in September 2017. The event was attended by the representatives of the Armenian government departments, famous athletes, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Yerevan, heads of the media and expert community.
The delegation of Turkmenistan was received by the Prime Minister of Armenia Karen Karapetyan. During the meeting, issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed, as well as the agenda for the upcoming visit of the Armenian Prime Minister to Turkmenistan.
