On October 29, 2020, a videoconference meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the heads of the UN system representation offices and international financial institutions in Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the key issues of cooperation and underlined the efficiency of joint plans and programmes, particularly in the area of healthcare, education and culture. The importance of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations for 2021-2025 was highlighted. On the basis of the given document, the Country Programmes with the relevant UN agencies were worked out.
The head of external policy agency of Turkmenistan noted the vital input of all the foreign partners working in Turkmenistan, including the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator, Representative Offices of the UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA, WHO, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, as well as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in the process of resolving the pressing issues of socio-economic nature.
The implementation of the plans and programmes on counteraction against the acute infectious diseases, including timely vaccination, prevention and awareness rising was especially discussed. In this regard, the necessity of uniting required resources and expertise for overcoming the economic repercussions of the global pandemic was stated.
An exchange of views took place on the promotion of cooperation in the area of digitalization, prevention of climate change and preservation of world cultural heritage.
During the meeting, the commitment of Turkmenistan to fulfilling its obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law was reiterated.
