On April 20, 2017, political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Serbia at the level of Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The Serbian delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Goran Aleksic, who arrived in the Turkmen capital on a working visit.
During the consultations, the sides discussed directions that represented mutual interest in the political, trade-economic, cultural and humanitarian fields. The sides noted the importance of regular political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries for the improvement of the legal framework.
Speaking about the commitment of the parties to the expansion of friendly relations, which are built on the principles of trust and mutual respect, the sides stressed the role of high-level visits, which act as a solid foundation for the comprehensive and consistent development of bilateral relations.
During the talks, the sides exchanged views on the possibilities of activating mutually beneficial trade and economic relations between enterprises, companies and entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan and Serbia, taking into account the establishment of business contacts in construction, agriculture, and textile industries. Touching upon the issues of cooperation in the spheres of science, education and sports, the sides expressed readiness to develop relations in this direction.
In the afternoon, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov. During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the issues of building up bilateral cooperation in various fields of mutual interest. The parties expressed interest in further strengthening the political dialogue, as well as in further developing cooperation within the framework of international organizations.
