On April 2, 2021, the meeting of the Foreign Ministers’ Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Moscow.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan D.Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia A.Aivazian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus V.Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan M.Tleuberdi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic R.Kazakbaev, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova D.Socolan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation S.Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan S.Muhriddin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.Meredov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan A.Kamilov, as well as the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee – Executive Secretary S.N. Lebedev participated to the session.
In the beginning, the talks were held in narrow format, during which the participants discussed the current and prospective vectors of cooperation within the CIS. The economic collaboration and the fight with the pandemic are determined as the main priorities of the partnership in the current year. Also an exchange of views took place on the pressing issues of the international agenda.
Then, the session continued in wide format. During the meeting, the parties discussed the issues of cooperation in political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres. The collaboration between the external policy agencies of the CIS participating states was especially considered. In this regard, the parties viewed the implementation of the Action Programme on Intensification of the Partnership between the external policy agencies of the CIS participating states adopted upon the initiative of Turkmenistan. The importance of coordinating actions within the international organizations, including the UN, OSCE and others was underlined. The parties expressed interest in the continuation of cooperation on the provision of regional security and stability.
An exchange of views took place on humanitarian cooperation, including the collaboration among the youth, on sports and tourism.
According to the outcomes of the Session of the Foreign Ministers’ Council of the CIS participating states, a number of documents were adopted. As an Associated Member of the CIS, Turkmenistan has supported the resolutions “On the draft of the Address of the Heads of States of the Commonwealth of Independent States participating countries to the People of the Commonwealth and World Community on the occasion of the 80th Anniversary since the start of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945,” and “On the Plan of Events for 2021-2023 on the Implementation of the Cooperation Development Strategy of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the area of Physical Culture and Sport for 2021–2030”.
The next session of the Foreign Ministers’ Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States is planned to be held in Minsk on October 14 of current year.
