On June 22, 2021, the Turkmen-Finnish consultations between the MFAs of the two countries were held in the format of a videoconference. The Turkmen delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev. The Finnish side was represented by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan (with the residence in Helsinki) Marja Elina Liivala and the representatives of the MFA of the Republic of Finland.
During the meeting, the parties expressed interest of two countries in the development of relations in political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian fields. The importance of high-level visits for the advancement of interstate ties was underlined. The possibilities of organizing such visits in the current year were considered.
The diplomats noted the constructive nature of cooperation between the MFAs, as well as reiterated the intent of the two countries to further effectively collaborate in the framework of international organizations, primarily the UN. The parties spoke for the development of legal-contractual basis of bilateral cooperation.
The level of trade-economic relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Finland was analyzed. Noting the presence of good potential for their further progressive development, the parties agreed to search for mutually acceptable mechanisms of partnership.
Besides, the parties discussed the regional matters, and the Afghan issues. The assuredness of the Turkmen side in the exclusiveness of political and diplomatic means in the attainment of peace in the neighboring country was reiterated.
The diplomats also discussed the opportunities of enhancing the cooperation on humanitarian direction, including the educational and scientific contacts.
