On October 14, 2021, the meeting of the Government Commission on issues connected with the accession of Turkmenistan to the World Trade Organization (WTO) was held in the videoconference format.
From Turkmen side the meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Hajiyev, the heads and representatives of corresponding ministries and agencies of the country. The delegation of the World Trade Organization was headed by the Director, Accessions Division of the WTO.
During the videoconference the parties discussed in detail all the points of the agenda of the meeting of the Government Commission and exchanged views regarding the approval of the Work Plan for 2021-2022 on preparation of the Memorandum of the Foreign Trade Regime of Turkmenistan.
Also the members of the Government Commission substantively studied the issue of filling an official application of Turkmenistan for participation in the WTO activities as the active observer during 12th WTO Ministerial Conference which will be held in Geneva from 30th of November to 3rd of December 2021.
In the course of the meeting the Turkmen side underlined that becoming of Turkmenistan a full member of the Organization is provided in the Foreign Trade Strategy of Turkmenistan for 2021-2030 which was approved by Special Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan.
In conclusion, the participants considered a number of priority issues concerning continuation of the work to activate cooperation of Turkmenistan with the WTO and further strengthening of bilateral partnership with this Organization.
